Roaming Romeo

REUNITED: In a few minutes

Romeo the Chinese Crested has a knack for escaping — he’s what we like to call a “frequent flyer” at AKC Reunite. Thankfully, on his most recent escape, he only wandered a few houses away before a good Samaritan found the lost canine and notified our 24/7 Reuniters Helpline.

“Romeo is sweet boy who loves everybody,” said Suzanne, Romeo’s owner. “He is quick and slips out an open door undetected constantly…. We use a wireless fence both at home and at our campground. All three of our fur babies get their collars on in the morning and are free to come and go as they please while I’m home (most of the time). These collars come with a warning not to use more than 12 consecutive hours so we remove them in the evening.”

Unfortunately, when the wireless fence collar comes off, Romeo has been known to run. Thankfully, Suzanne went ahead and ordered an AKC Reunite collar tag to help reunite Romeo quickly the next time he takes off beyond the safe confines of his secured yard.

“Before this last escape, he would get scanned but the chip was still going back to the breeder and I had to find him,” recalled Suzanne. “I finally reached out to AKC Reunite with his info and was able to update ownership and ordered the ‘I’m Microchipped’ tag. This past reunification, we hadn’t even realized he slipped out when a neighbor up the street knocked on the door with Romeo!”
