Remington the Retriever

Decorating for the holiday season is usually an enjoyable experience, that is until Remington the Labrador Retriever decided to take off during the hustle and bustle! In less than 30 minutes, he was reunited with his family thanks to microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite.

“My mom and I were busy putting decorations up,” said Teresa, Remington’s owner. “Remington was following us around the house. He got out when both of us were bringing in a ladder and we took our eyes off him…and the door remained open just a bit too long.”

Unbeknownst to Teresa or her mom, Remington had slipped out the door and took off exploring the neighborhood — all while they continued decorating. Minutes later, Teresa noticed it was too quiet and realized Remington was nowhere to be found.

“We went on with our decorating for about 15 minutes when I realized he wasn’t by my side,” said Teresa. “We looked around the house, inside and outside and couldn’t find him anywhere. We both got into vehicles and drove the neighborhood for about 20 minutes calling his name and asking neighbors if they had seen him.”

While on the road searching for Remington, Teresa had a call go to voicemail and after checking the message, it was the best news she could have received — Remington had been found!

“Two young girls had found Remington and brought him to the nearest vet where his chip was scanned, and we were contacted immediately [by the vet’s office]. AKC Reunite [then] notified us that he was found as well via email AND did a follow up call to check that he was home with us! My husband and I both got emails from AKC Reunite stating that Remington had been found.”

“We are so very thankful he was microchipped and is enrolled in the AKC Reunite program… Remington had his collar on and his harness but did not have his collar tag on. The collar tag is back on now! Thanks, so much to everyone involved in returning our beloved Remington!”
